STURGIS!!! We took the drive up to Sturgis and had lunch. Wow, what gorgeous bikes and interesting characters. The wild antics that you hear about on documentaries about Sturgis don't happen in town so much as out in the campgrounds surrounding town. What we saw were lots of folks riding their bikes up and down Main Street, drinking in the bars lining the street, having lunch like us, shopping for anything you might ever want for your bike or your biker lifestyle, perusing the tons of official t-shirts, clothing and hats.
Mini bikes shows along the street such as the one at the Rockstar energy booth.
Seemed like 50% of the folks were over 50 years old. And some much older than that. Handsome guys and gals and many not so much. Lol! Lots of confident women with oversized bodies in their tank tops and tight jeans! I love it when women are not afraid to be who they are.
Had absolutely wonderful pizza at the Knuckle Saloon, which was profiled on the history channel recently.
Harley is kicking some serious butt in Sturgis. A few Hondas and other makes, but there is no doubt that this is Harley country!
Indian motorcycles has a dealership on Main and they are truly amazing! An Indian dealership is being built right now in west Fort Worth. I MUST stay away. On our first day at our camp, this one stopped for a break at the little store/office of the campground.
We had planned to stop in Deadwood on the drive back to camp but the rain was coming down. We plan to go back another day. Here is a shot of a parking lot in Deadwood at a restaurant. Perfect place to get off your bike and out of the rain!
On the drive up we saw this beautiful lake, Pactola. On the way back we stopped to look at it and take pictures. Photos never do scenes like this justice and that is surely the case here! The water is clear and a deep teal color. Jim and I were saying how great it would be to have a cabin overlooking this magnificent lake. Ahhhhh......
When we got back to camp the rain had moved out. We dined on Jim's fabulous grilled pork chops and roasted red potatoes, and of course wine. The night was clear with either a full moon or almost full. Jim made a fire and we sat in the cool evening having more wine and enjoying the solitude.
